Moving JADE Skins around deployed environments

Hi
This is related to the earlier posting about transferring objects generally between JADE systems but here goes anyway ...

I've just started using the new JADE skins on my appls. and they're kewl -- but because a skin is stored as an instance of the JADESkin class how do you get this across to say, a remote deployed environment ?

Up to now I've been visiting sites and running a script off deployed environments to access JADESkinMaint and then recreate the skins from the myriad of little .PNG pictures files.

However, I want to do this at an Australian site and not get the user there to jhave to go through the skin maintenance process. How can it be automated ?

Cheers

Are Jadeskins a JUICE thing - what Jade version are you running?
We can't find anything in 5.1.10!!

Hi Martin,
No they ain't no JUICE thang --- they're a new thing and they allow you to create snazzy screens utilising the "Windows" part of your screens that hitherto was "hard" to get at using plain JADE --- e.g. the menu bar, the maximize/minimize/restore/terminate icons etc.

There's a whole section on using them in the product release notes for 5.1.10 -- that big Word document on the 5.1.10 CD --- print it all out and around page 80 or so is the section on JADE Skins.

You set up a JADEScript to access the JADESkinMaint form class (supplied) and then create a skin and click 'Set All' to get JADE to prompt you to supply dertails of where to find the graphic you want to use for your skin for use as say the top left corner, menu strip, right edge strip etc etc etc ... and for button controls it asks for up, down, disabled, rollover pictures etc.

So, of course you have to obtain or create a set of all these little picture files to use in creating your skin.

Then it's a simple statement to make use of it in say, your applications initialize method and then the skin is applied automatically on all screens of your application.

Enclosed is a screen shot of forms from my application that I have created a skin for and certainly smartens it up. Whaddya think ?

Hi Ho Silver

Yes, I'd already run up agianst that issue when I skinned the JADE Systems Manager. So, in CardSchema version 2.7 there is a CnJadeSkinsLoader class which can be used to export skins into a (binary) flat file, and reimport into another JADE environment. CardSchema 2.7 is still a couple of months away from release, but if you need it before then, I can let you have a .cls file.
