when using a shortcut for the form

To use the a shortcut which is the form with simple design, do I need to start something prior to?
Because I couldn't add anything showing error messages like object is null. I feel like I should open the database server, but it didn't work as well. Thank you.

Maybe it would help to define an initialize method, and display messages from there? The initialize method is executed before form load.
