VMWare and VMotion

Postby torrie » Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:51 am

Hi

Wondering if anyone has had experience with a Jade system running on VMWare and using the fail over features to fail over to another machine. I've heard that it's not recommended with Jade systems but can't find any resources on this.

Thanks

Torrie

Hi Torrie,
We have recently migrated to a new architecture that include running our Jade systems in a VM environment. The fail over process is scripted with the Jade systems automatically failing over to the secondary SDS and starting applications on the secondary server. The scripting includes the transfer of virtual ip addresses used by the system. To date we have not had any problems running our Jade systems in this mode

We are working on a document that will outline our position for supporting JADE under virtualisation and expect to publish this by Dec 11. Like other database vendors, the document will describe a set of requirements that the virtualisation platform must meet in order for JADE to ensure system integrity and for us to provide support. We will post another message in this forum when the document is available.

Thanks Dean.

This will be useful. We've had several queries lately including using VMWare and Veeam, Double Take and Microsoft Hyper-V and clustering.

We have published an updated Environmental Considerations for Deploying JADE white paper which describes our support position re JADE and virtualisation. The updated white paper is available here:

http://www.jadeworld.com/jade/whitepapers.htm#envirocon

See pages 5, 6 and 9 for the virtualisation updates. But it's highly recommended reading for deploying any JADE system - virtualised or otherwise.

This white paper is referenced in our Release Policy (last page), available here:

We have added sections to the Environmental Considerations for Deploying JADE white paper that describe our support position re Windows clusters (page 6), and details about basic I/O requirements (page 7). The updated white paper is available here:

Hi,

I would be interested in any further information and papers Re: deploying Jade into VMWare environment.

Appreciate anyone out there with relevant experiences and knowledge of deploying and running Jade databases and software in Virtual environments.

Thanks,
