Ctrl+F versus Shift+F3 in Jade 6.3.06

Postby BeeJay » Fri Apr 09, 2010 4:13 pm

I know this probably shows I'm a bit of an old fart but I have gotten rather used to Jade's non-standard Shift+F3 instead of Ctrl+F for opening the find dialog. This means that I'm finding the 6.3.06 behaviour of using Ctrl+F hard to get used to, especially given that the F3, Ctrl+F3 and Ctrl+Shift+F3 functionality remains unchanged.

The good news for me, and maybe also good news for any others of you out there who are also used to using Shift+F3 for Find, is that you can use the keyboard bindings in your Jade User Preferences to reinstate the Shift+F3 sequence.

Cheers,
BeeJay.

Since I've had a number ask this now, the full sequence to achieve this is as follows:

1. In the Jade IDE, select the Options -> Preferences menu to open the Preferences dialog.

2. Swap to the Editor Key Bindings tab on the Preferences dialog.

3. Put focus into the Key Combination field and press Shift+F3.

4. In the Action field select the OpenFindReplace action.

5. Click the Add button to add this mapping.

6. Click the OK button to apply the new setting(s).

Tip: I keep a saved copy of all my User Preferences changes by using the Export Preferences option on the Miscellaneous tab of the Prefences dialog and use this to load my changes into any new environments I may have to work on. I found this quite useful when all our source environments were upgraded to 6.3 over a period of time as it saved me having to repeat this change multiple times. :)

Cheers,
BeeJay.
