Jade from Crystal Enterprise Using ODBC

Postby ConvertFromOldNGs » Fri Aug 07, 2009 2:38 pm

Hi Jade community,

Has anyone had problems letting Crystal Enterprise generate report via ODBC to Jade database?

I have a client that is able to generate a report via ODBC on a standalone Crystal Report, but when he copies the report to the
Crystal Enterprise (which allows users over web to access) just
doesn't work.

Any one has the experience or ideas, please help..

Hello Mr Lim!

Are there any error messages that are being produced when the problems occurs? This would be a start... what about entries in the jommsg log file?

Hi Criag,
Actually there's not much to work on as it just says the database name
is not available.
I really have no idea what is the Jade database name for our
application.
The fun thing is that on a single user Crystal Report Writer, it does
not need the database name.
I've tried putting, the schema, application name, and any other name I can think off (since there's nothing to lose anymore).

Jade didn't crash or anything. Would the log help? Thought it's more
on Crystal side that's trying to contact the database.

Presumeably Crystal Reports is connecting to Jade using ODBC, so I would think that the name it would be looking for is the name as configured in your control panel for ODBC connection sources. How is Jade configured in there?

Hi Criag,
The setup is as how ODBC connection is as how Jade has recommended the steps. Eg.. the drivers, filling up the information as required, view names, schema name, application name , multiuser etc..

For the standalone Crystal, it accessed the multiuser Jade environment and created the report. Importing it to the Crystal Enterprise and it just stops there...

The best way to find out what is really going on is to switch on tracing in the odbc setup (via the Tracing tab in the odbc setup)

Then run your report again and check the log, it should be reasonably obvious what the problem is.

Thanks guys,
would be worth a try.. going to try on the client's side again and see
if it comes up with any more information..
Will get back with any new findings I can find..
