This newsgroup... where to from here?

Hello all...

This newsgroup is remarkably popular. Having been in existance for only 1 week, it already has over 40 messages!

My question is what do we do with all these posts? I'd like to see some sort of reaction from readers on each post, but a newsgroup isn't terribly efficient in trying to collate some sort of vote. I'd imagine that each proposed feature would be rated by developers on some sort of scale. Anybody got any ideas on how we might implement this?

How about each week, we have a summary of all the new posts appear on a Web page somewhere (perhaps the JADE web-page?) and there would be a mechanism for developers to vote on each suggestion as to whether it would be desirable.

Somebody would have to be responsible for writing up the suggestion in an agreed form - perhaps this could be thrashed out on the newsgroup initially.

What do you think?

Craig.

Yes --- why post all this flurry of activity if it's all going to simply shuffle off into the black abyss ......

It really needs commitment from personnel at the JADE Plant, or JADE Marketing to take an interest in the postings here and collate the ideas with feedback to all interested parties. An interactive webpage would be good -- there are voting pages out there that increment counters etc. so it's all been done before.

Over to the JADE guys to support craig's suggestions ..............

This may be asking the obvious but aren't the people making all these excellent suggestions also submitting them to Jade Support as New Feature Suggestions? They would then presumably be reviewed and compared with previous NFS's and potentially forwarded to the plant?

One thing I would like to happen if practicable is for Jade Support to have a look-see in this newsgroup from time to time and just let us know if any of the suggestions have already been submitted to the plant and what the status or the outcome is.

Perhaps the Jade Support team would like to comment on what they would see as the logical way to handle suggestions.

I have always wondered why product managers don't put a list of potential enhancements up on the company/product web-site for users to vote on. Obviously this won't be appropriate for every enhancement but it could help the JADE plant to make the most effective use of their available resources and go some way towards making sure that the product is satisfying most of the people most of the time.

Cheers, Kevin

It's great to see so many excellent suggestions about further product development.

I can say that the group has been set up following a request to JADE Sales & Marketing from the JADE Plant so I'm certain that they're taking an active interest. I will commit to talking with the plant to discuss what our next step needs to be but the response is clearly gratifying.

Regarding comments from Craig and Silver Springs, an interactive web page has some merit - I suspect that we'd be more interested in a 1-10 usefulness scale rather than a straight Yes/No - but that will be an option we will discuss with the plant.

Kevin also makes a good point re using the existing channels re submitting NFS into the JDC structure.

I'll certainly be keeping my eye on this group.
