Excel Interface To Jade Using ODBC

Hi Jade Developers,
Need advise on how to use Excel to interface with Jade database.
Managed to use Access to interface. but not Excel.

Found that in Excel, it needs to have a File DSN which I can't seem to find in the Jade documentation.

Any advise, File DSN sample and experience appreciated.

Isn't Excel for Spreadsheeting, not Databases?

Excel can get it's data from multiple sources including databases so no it's not "just for spreadsheeting" - whatever you may mean by that term. ______________________________

You setup the required File DSN or User DSN etc for use from within Excel via the Windows Control Panel ODBC Applet. When you first open this the User DSN tab is normally the default tab. Click the add button and choose the appropriate JADE ODBC Driver from the list of available drivers and click finish.

At this point you should then get presented with the JADE ODBC Setup dialog where you can specify all the required values such as the Directory, single/multiUser, App, Schema and RelationalView details etc.

I've just done a quick test now using Excel 97 SR2 and it worked like a charm.

True. But since Excel is commonly used by individuals to do formatting
of reports, I find it useful to pour out certain relevant information (Eg. Numeric data, financial data) to let individuals prepare reports.

Of course I hope all these nightmares will end when Jade comes out
with a report writer.

Do you *need* to use ODBC?

It might be a lot simpler if you just use the Excel OLE Automation interface. There is an example in the Jade help that does this ("Example of Using an Imported ActiveX Automation Object").
