Class browser update history ...

Now I'm sure someone has code to do this and it may even be in the base product (but buried deeep!!) but when I come in on a Monday morning I would like to hit an option in the Class browser that would present to me a history sorted by date of all changes to classes, methods etc.

Useful just as a pointer to help me start off again where I left off before (then I could dispense with the PostIt notes all over my screen) but also for version control purposes where you want to ensure that specific changes have been effected (particularly when project managing a team environment) and you don't want to have to go to each and every class or method to examine the signature in the status bar.

This is available in other development environments. Can JADE provide this easily ???

I've been thinking about how I would interface Jade to an existing VCS receintly.

It seems to me that it would be fairly easy to write a program that took a full schema extract and split it up into a number of text files.
you would write one file for each class definition, one foreach method, constant etc, using a naming convention to ensure uniqueness of the filenames.

Then the set of files could be compared with the previous extract or submitted to a VCS and you would have your change history.

Yes, I know that, in theory, jade could do a reverse delta every time a script was changed and keep the history itself.
But what I've suggested might be a workable interim solution.

Browse -- Patch Summary

Of course you have to set up Patch Versioning first....I've been using it for a few weeks and it seems to do exactly what you want. Also very handy for extracting just today's changes ....

For helping to remember where you were you could also choose the 'Save Windows' option on the Exit tab of the Preferences window - brings up the windows you had open at the end of your last session.

On the patch summary facility: beware if you're upgrading JADE versions (see the relevant release notes (page 6 for 5.0.15).
