CnSmtpConnection: userNotifications and Attachment Files

Firstly, this message is to inform non-Cardinal CardSchema users that CardSchema 2.2.21 contains a CnSmtpConnection class that allows you to send e-mail and attachments from a JADE app.

Secondly, the documentation doesn't make it clear that you must subclass CnSmtpConnection if you want to trap notifications in the userNotification method. The updated documentation is attached to this posting.

Thirdly, please be aware that in the current version, attachment files are not closed until the CnSmtpConnection object is deleted. In the next release of CardSchema, these files will be closed when the sending of the message is complete.

Besides Postie.exe and the CardSchema are people using other methods
for integrating with EMail ?

Are these facilities available to non cardinal companies and by what means ?

How are people using HTML documents.

Why/How are people using HTML in their Email from Jade.

Is Cardinal/Jade doing anything with XML and who could I talk to about this.

I provide a simple interface with SMTP email in my main application using the MAPISEND.EXE utility that comes free with Exchange Server. I simply call this using calls to shellExecute (usuable after loading the shell32 external library -- see Nov.98 edition of JADE World).

It works well. You call MAPISEND with a command string or a text file that detail the parameters of the email eg. recipients, cc's, subject, content etc.

You can probably use the intrinsic app.createExternalProcess method also although I havenae tried this.

We are interfacing with an exchange server using MS dll's (users can print reports to an email address). I'm not too sure of the specifics, but it seems to work ok (but you need exchange/outlook installed on
your system).

Well i've written a small SMTP/POP server suite. Email programs can use the pop server to read their mail and the SMTP to transmit messages. SMTP server also recieves incoming mail for local accounts.

I wrote it (still working on it occasionally) as a test-learning jade project so there are some big bugs in it, but you're more than welcome to use the source code to see how the protocols work etc etc.
