Jade Skins and Thin Client

Does anyone know what the performance implications of JadeSkins are over thin client? Are the jade skins cached at the thin client end in the forms file or are they pulled across every time a skin is set? We are thinking about allowing users of a system to customise their applications appearence.

Has anyone wanted to combine extra pictures with a Jade skin, eg client logos, menu buttons etc. I notice that the jade skin class can be subclassed and extra properties added, but I can't see how to hook into the method that sets the skin on the form. Any ideas?

Hi Torrie,

I'm not into development though my colleagues are, so I might not be
able to explain the more in-depth stuff of Jade.
But we did incorporate Jade skin [we allow only one skin, that's the green skin] and allow the users to change to it apart from the default one.
I would say that the performace is just as good as the regular screen.
Of course we try not to incorporate too much graphics.

You can try the thinclient from our website :

www.bizpoint.com.sg

for a couple of thinclient download and see if that's what you had in mind.

I'm just up the road from you and skins are used in the Castle project without problems with the application deployed to 80+ sites around the UK. Not sure about the caching but although the facility is there for users to change skins they never do. Does your application want to allow users to customise the interface with regular skin changes ?

The Castle skins are a set of graphics that combine extra pictures ie. a company logo. We use an separate application to maintain the skins that allow for incorporation of extra elements like logos.

I'd need to investigate just how it hooks in to setting the skin on the form but it's definitely been done !
