Thin client upgrade 6.3 to 7

Hi

Am I correct that, for a 64 bit client machine that has been running v6.3 32-bit thin client executables, upgrading to the 64-bit binaries must be manually performed? I.e., specifying the FullJadeInstallDirectory parameter of the [x64-msoft-win64-ansi] ini section will NOT accomplish this?

Cheers
David

As far as I'm aware you're correct. If you really want to upgrade your thin clients to 64bit binaries, you'll need to manually update them as there's currently no 'automatic' upgrade that will take them from 32bit to 64bit binaries. Once they're on 64bit, then the automatic thin client update should continue to update them to the later versions of the 64bit binaries as you upgrade to later releases of Jade, or HotFixs that include changes to thin client binaries.

Having said that, for our systems we have deliberately remained with 32bit binaries for our presentation client workstations. This is because we utilise a number of 3rd party dlls, which are 32bit, and we want them to continue to work as expected on our Jade 7 installations.

ie: Currently we are not planning to ever make our presentation clients anything other than 32bit binaries, at least for the foreseeable future!

Cheers,
BeeJay.

In JADE 7.1 the capability now exists to upgrade thin-clients on an individual basis or for all thin-clients connecting to an app server.

Refer to section 'Upgrading a 32‑bit Presentation Client Connecting to a 64‑bit Application Server' within the Version 7.1.03 Release Information document - url https://www.jadeworld.com/docs/jade-710 ... e%7C_____1)

Refer to ini file documentation under [JadeAppServer]:
- CustomRuntimeUpgrade
- CustomRuntimeUpgrade[computer‑name]
- UpgradeRuntimeTo64bit

The first two options allow upgrades by thin-client workstation.
The latter option will cause all thin-clients for the app servers accessing this ini file to be upgraded.
