Languages similar to Jade?

Postby Stokes » Tue Sep 03, 2013 4:41 pm

Hi all,

I have been developing in Jade for almost 10 years and it is the only language I have known straight out of Uni into a Jade development role.

I really want to learn another language as I feel just knowing Jade is a bit restrictive. I always thought that it would be quite easy to pick up another OO language as it would be a matter of just learning the syntax changes. Is that statement correct? I am thinking .NET but if I did a course would that just be a waste of money.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Have a look at Java.

Absolutely - once you know one language, learning another one is just a matter of learning the differences between them.

I would think that what language you learn would be related to what jobs are available - if there are lots of .NET jobs available in your area then that could be a good investment etc.

Nowadays web and mobile development is very trendy so you could consider something like Ruby, although that would be a smaller niche than big languages like .NET or JAVA.
I have a catapult. Give me all the money or I will fling an enormous rock at your head.

Thanks a lot for your feedback it really helps a lot.

I already have my niche language so I think I will focus on the big ones .NET and JAVA. After reading a little bit about them both they seem like they should be easy enough to learn.
