Smooth animations in a thin client - possible?

Hi all,
Is it possible to implement smooth animations in a thin client? By "animation" I mean the moving of controls as one experiences on an iPhone or iPad. My experience with this in Jade is that because of the way thin client communications works, the sliding of a Frame control is jittery. Is there a way of making this smooth? I'd imaging some of the timer/moving logic would need to be moved to the client side for this to work, and I cannot see how this will be possible with a traditional thin client deployment model.
