ODBC Error

We are having the following error when using ODBC to retrieve data from a Jade database:
Unknown SQL type - 50
The program which is using ODBC to connect is pretty simple; it takes the DSN connection string, the SQL query and writes it directly to an CSV file. We have never had a problem with this program connecting to various other datasources (SQL Server, MySQL, Access, Excel).
We can connect to the Jade Database and get the column name but the error occurs when we actually try to retrieve data.
We also tried using SQL Server's Data Transformation Service (DTS) to import the data, however it also had an unspecified error when it tried to retrieve the data.
Does anyone know what this error means and how to get around it?
