6.2.15 thin client ODBC connection

Postby BobNZ » Tue Apr 27, 2010 3:10 pm

Problems setting up thin client. Ran the JADEwin32AnsiThinClient.exe which does not install the JADE ODBC Thin Client driver?
Which 6.2.15 download do I need to install the thin client driver for ODBC data source?

I don't believe the JADE ODBC Thin Client is available until the JADE 6.2.17 release and above. Once you've run the presentation client install for JADE 6.2.17 or above, you should then be able to use the Windows Control Panel Datasource Applet to create the DSN with the appropriate connection details etc. You'll have to make sure you use the 32bit Datasource Applet if you're running on a 64bit OS with the 32bit version of JADE or you won't see the JADE ODBC Thin Client driver.

Cheers,
BeeJay.

Also, the 32-bit Data Source Administrator is odbcad32.exe and can be found in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder on 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system.

If you've got access to Jade 6.3, then you may be able to use the odbcinst supplied with that release to install both the driver. We install the driver and the data sources manually under a different registryKey so we can have one driver per system (to support multiple Jade version on one PC) I haven't tried this utility with Jade 6.2 but it's likely that it would work.

From the Jade 6.3 Readme Install Steps file (for thin client you will need the last entry only.) Also note that the dll should exist in the binDir path specified.
To setup the JADE ODBC Driver for execution:
Run
odbcinst registryKey="JADE ODBC Driver" binDir=<JADEDIR>\bin dllName=jadodbc.dll
odbcinst registryKey="JADE ODBC Driver 6.3" binDir=<JADEDIR>\bin dllName=jadodbc.dll
odbcinst registryKey="JADE ODBC Thin Client" binDir=<JADEDIR>\bin dllName=jadodbc_c.dll

There is an issue with jade 6.2.17 the odbc dll's are the wrong version. We had to copy the jadodbc_c.dll from the server to the client bin file, connection then worked.

Jade plant are now aware of this and fixing

The jadodbc_c.dll file is one of the files automatically downloaded by the JADE Smart Thin Client™ automatic update facility. For our sites that use the JADE ODBC Thin Client, they are also running our main application as a JADE Smart Thin Client™ using the same /bin directory, which takes care of keeping the jadodbc_c.dll file in this /bin directory in sync with the server.

Am I correct in presuming that you are only running the JADE ODBC Thin Client from this /bin directory on the presentation client, and therefore not using this /bin directory for running any JADE Smart Thin Client™ applications?

Cheers,
BeeJay.
