Does anybody know a way of reducing the size of thin client print preview downloads?
Some of my reports include small graphics (company logos, graphs etc) and no matter what the size of the graphic, there is always a download of 200k to 300k to the presentation client. This pretty much makes the print preview feature difficult/useless for clients connected over modems. As these reports are generated at run time they cannot be cached. Printing directly does not cause too much delay. Reports that only contain text download quick.
Is it correct that the whole print preview is constructed as a bitmap and this bitmap is downloaded to the client? I'd put in a vote for a png if this was the case.
Also there seems to be a problem with the pre print preview form, the one which has the cancel and stop buttons on and tells you which page is being prepared. When this form is first loaded, the label and button controls are not shown for a long time. In fact the area they are to occupy are shown as transparent and one can see the previous form underneath. This really looks ugly and I would like to be able to get this form to paint properly when it is loaded.
Suggestions anyone...?
