Jade to DB2 via ODBC

We have a requirement to read DB2 tables from Jade. ODBC is the immediate solution but it is not currently one of the supported databases. However it is highly likely to work according to well informed sources .

Has anyone tried it?

I have now done this myself. I've just done simple selects but I can assume that the rest of it would work. It was as easy as I anticipated.

I picked up a copy of DB2 Universal Database and installed it no probs, just takes a while.

First step is to include the sample database in your ODBC arsenal in the usual way.

Load the ODBC extensions into Jade.

Set up an External database with the wizard.

Write some methods - it works first time.

DB2 looks to have some nice management tools too.

We have done a lot of work with ODBC, to communicate with DATAFLEX and using the ODBC drivers directly never fully worked, reading was pretty
ok except for large tables. But updates, adding and deleting was
pretty hard.

The solution was to connect to Access Queries made from Tables linked
to the DataFlex tables.
Not an obvious approach.

Try the odbc drivers first, but if you get desperate try the above.

We will be updating our odbc whitepaper on our page soon, with our
latest experiences.
